Wesley & Charmaine’s Engagement Shoot | Focus Photography at Glasshouse Studio

Wesley and Charmaine were dressed so gorgeously, they almost looked old fashioned! They booked the Glasshouse Studio for their engagement shoot. I headed over and immediately, images of how Wesley and Charmaine should pose by the drapes and the couch came to mind. I was more than ready with my camera and my visions in mind.

I have always loved being a photographer. Working in this industry, it means being able to see in hindsight, and recognizing a special moment before it is gone. With Wesley and Charmaine, their entire engagement shoot was full of special moments. That whole day, as I reviewed their pictures, I discovered that my memory card was not without fireworks and passion.

Wesley and Charmained booked the Glasshouse Studio for a few hours. This gave me more than enough time to collate all of my thoughts, and actualize them on the day itself. Charmaine had on this chic-looking dress with draping sleeves and a slit on the side. Her hair was in shiny, voluminous waves, and she accessorized with all the right, shiny gems to perfect her look.

As for Wesley, he had on a black tuxedo with lapels that shone under the light, and a pair of black shoes that chameleon-ed very well with his dress pants. Because they were such a gorgeous couple, I wanted to be able to make their beauty and elegance stand out more in their pictures.

I had them begin the session at a black wall with a dado rail. I softened the LED light, so that it didn’t look too harsh on them, and it didn’t reflect from the wall. Wesley and Charmaine started simple. They were standing next to each with their hands intertwined. From there, I suggested that they have more movement. It didn’t matter if my shutter was going off, I wanted them to keep repositioning themselves so that there was more variety in each of the shots.

After, I went for a medium shot, the frame ending just below their thighs. Then, I asked them to do a pose that couples usually called “the prom pose”, and they were starting to find more rhythm and comfort.

And because they were dressed so chic, I had this slightly old-fashioned idea of having Charmaine sit cross-legged and Wesley behind her with a hand on her shoulder. It very much resembled the old couple paintings back in the day, but I thought it was fitting for the aesthetic they were going for.

As I took a couple of pictures, I couldn’t help but think about how they were a stunning couple. We were only in a studio, but I felt like I was a top photographer with two movie stars, posing for a cover and they were giving me exactly what I had painted in mind. In my head, I was practically over the moon with the masterpieces they were giving me with each shot!

The photoshoot itself didn’t take too long, honestly. Wesley and Charmaine were a natural, and they quickly got a grasp of how to position themselves and which angles to really go for. But there was a specific picture that I absolutely adored, which I did not take full credit for. This was all them!

Wesley and Charmaine were standing by the window, chest-to-chest. Wesley had his arm around her waist, and Charmaine rested her hand on his chest. And Wesley looked down at his bride-to-be, and it was like magic! I was melting with the way Wesley stared at Charmaine. He looked at her as though she was the oxygen that he breathed.

Whenever I get the opportunity to do engagement shoots, I always get so excited. Aside from having the luxury of having more time to experiment, it shows people how couples transition from being “us” to being “forever”. It emphasizes the process and routine of how their future unfolds right before everybody’s eyes. And that is why I am always so grateful to be chosen and entrusted to do these kinds of projects.
