Shiena & Jason on their Wedding Day | Focus Photography at Britannia Yacht Club
Whoever said that matchmaking was best done by our moms was right on the nose! They will absolutely stop at nothing until you find the love of your life. Any change they get, they will nag you, and we gotta hand it to them for the efforts they make. But for Shiena and Jason, their moms always joked about pairing them up when they were much younger. And it seemed like at that point, it was only a prophecy that Shiena and Jason had to fulfill by then.
As for the proposal, Jason’s plans didn’t go according to how he imagined it to be. They had gotten engaged at a Greek restaurant somewhere in Downtown Ottawa. But he forgot to inform the restaurant staff, so they ended up sharing a more private and intimate proposal in their car instead, which Shiena was more amenable to.
On the day of their wedding, both the bride and groom got ready at the Hyatt Place Ottawa West. For Shiena, she preferred to have more interactions with her bridesmaids. While Jason opted for a more casual photoshoot with his groomsmen as he got ready for the ceremony.
As I was taking pictures of Shiena, she seemed so bubbly, pleasant, and selfless. Instead of solely focusing on the day as if it was her own, she wanted to be able to share all of these precious moments with her loved ones.
For their photoshoot, she wanted to execute three ideas with her bridesmaids. For the first one, they would be standing in front of their dresses, including Shiena, and they blew a kiss at the bride’s direction. They all looked so adorable!
Next, they crowded around a sitting and smiling Shiena as they had different make-up tools in hand and pretended to be glamming her up. And lastly, they were on the bed, and they looked like they were having a big ‘ol slumber party.
My mood was up through the roof by the time I went to Jason for his photoshoot with the groomsmen.
As for Jason, his pictures felt a lot more personable and calm. He and the groomsmen took turns being photographed by me. And because the only source of light was through their hotel window, I had them stand right by the window so that all of their faces would be illuminated equally. While Jason continued to dress up, I snapped pictures of the groomsmen with their personalized gifts. Every one of them smiled so happily and gratefully with the hangers in hand.
Afterwards, we decided to transfer outdoors for a wider variety of photographs. And Jason did not disappoint. He drove in style. His car looked sleek and almost vintage-like. He was wearing a light grey suit with a sage green tie.
Then, once the ceremony was over, all of the guests went ahead to the reception party. Everybody else stayed behind for a quick photoshoot with the husband and wife. This consisted of their families and the entire entourage. I loved the vibe so much. Everybody was so welcoming and nice, and it just felt good to work alongside people like this. It makes the job much easier and faster to accomplish.
Every one of them was so quirky. They kept on doing different poses around the newlyweds, and they always found a way to bust down a move. Once the group pictures were out of the way, I asked for Shiena and Jason to come out by the dock. That day was especially nice, the wind felt cool and the sun was out. It was the perfect scenery for their couple pictures as husband and wife.
The entire day, I kept on thinking about how beautiful Shiena and Jason were as individuals, and as a couple. And their family was just as beautiful! They raised Shiena and Jason very well. I wish nothing but the best and all my love and thanks for them as they venture into this new journey together.
