Rajan & Cindy’s Engagement Photoshoot with Focus Photography at Gairloch Gardens
When love arrives at your doorstep, you invite it in and make sure it stays cozy to ensure a prolonged stay. And when love proposes to you three days before Christmas, what else is there to say but “yes”? That is what Cindy did. Their love story was so adorable that Grinch could not ruin it, even if he tried!
Rajan and Cindy met in the middle of the year, and after a month of communicating, they finally set a date to meet in person. After spending a considerable amount of time with each other, they were glued to the hip. Their relationship had been like a steady sailboat since then. Nothing had rocked them over, and because of that, Rajan knew that Cindy was it for life.
Cindy mentioned that their proposal was perfect because it embodied everything they stood for as a couple, which was why I thought their chosen location suited them well. That morning, I drove up to Gairloch Gardens in the midst of Cherry Blossom season. As soon as I had arrived, I was already in love with the whimsical and wispy atmosphere the place had. Definitely, Rajan and Cindy had phenomenal taste.
For the session, they prepared two outfits. But for the first half, they started casual. Cindy wore a long dress with a scoop neckline and flowy sleeves. Rajan picked out a light grey button down and brown pants. Initially, they had already discussed with me what poses they were most comfortable in. So, throughout the day, I didn’t ask them to do anything too animated.
As we strolled around the park, whenever I found a beautiful nook or corner, I would immediately have them stand close together and smile gently at the camera. But my favorite shot of them was of Rajan and Cindy smiling at each other after kissing along this rocky path with uniquely shaped trees in the background.
For the second half of the photoshoot, they changed into their spare outfit. That time, Cindy had on a white blouse and a floral skirt while Rajan wore a white tee and denim jeans.
Then, I had this surge of inspiration where I had them embrace each other, and I lightly tugged on a tree branch with blossoming flowers on it. Afterwards, I positioned my camera lens to capture Rajan and Cindy at the middle ground, and the cherry blossoms as a foreground. As soon as it came out, I loved how the flowers served as a natural border to their pictures. Rajan and Cindy loved that shot as well as I did.
To me, photography is not only about taking beautiful photos. Instead, it is about witnessing the kind of love that speaks softly but stays long after the camera clicks. Rajan and Cindy weren’t even trying to perform for the lens. They were simply being themselves, and that is where the magic always happens.
Every couple I meet teaches me something new about love. Rajan and Cindy reminded me that love doesn’t always have to be loud or extravagant. Sometimes, it’s found in the calm, in the way two people simply fit together, effortlessly. Standing under those cherry blossoms, camera in hand, I felt grateful to be trusted to preserve that feeling, to turn fleeting seconds into tangible memories.
Photography, for me, has always been about connection, which is why I always find it important to know how every couple met and how their proposal happened. It is about the privilege of being part of a moment that can never be recreated. And as I packed up my gear that afternoon, watching the petals fall around them, I knew that it was a story Rajan and Cindy will hold close for years to come.
