Herma & Dean’s Engagement Photos in Downtown Toronto
Herma and Dean wanted to go Downtown, Toronto for their engagement shoot. They didn’t have a lot of specifications. The eager couple wanted something timeless, simple, and light. On the day of the shoot, they arrived in such chic outfits.
Herma wore an asymmetrical silken dress with ruffled trimmings. And she wore her hair down… it was flowing down her back. Dean had on a tight formal suit in a charcoal-like color. They looked relaxed and more than ready to go through our extensive list of pegs and inspirations.
Our photoshoot began early in the morning on the rooftop of a building. It was overlooking the Toronto skyline, and I had Herma and Dean pose closely together by the railing. Whenever I instructed them on what kind of movement to do, they listened but it was like my words barely registered to them. It felt like there was some magnetic force field separating Herma and Dean from me.
To be fair, they were such a dreamy couple. Apparently, Dean proposed to Herma at the Markham Unionville Strip. And photographing them that day, it seemed like they were still in their own little bubble. They were practically lovestruck that whole shoot. Herma wouldn’t stop smiling, and Dean wouldn’t stop finding ways in making her smile.
Honestly, there was so much I could take away from the spark of their relationship. This only seemed to fuel my energy to take really nice and nostalgic photos of Herma and Dean.
I made Herma and Dean walk along this suspended bridge. As they distanced themselves from me, they began loosening up. They were just talking, but even I felt their chemistry from that far! There was no denying that they were more than ready to get married.
I wanted to capture that specific essence in their relationship, and I wanted nothing more than to be able to translate that energy into their pictures.
Afterwards, we transferred to the somewhat busy streets of Toronto. Herma and Dean brought a prop to our photoshoot, which I thought was funny at first. They had a bottle of champagne and a pair of glass flutes. It was such a fun moment, to be honest! I made them pop it open and drink from their glasses.
Thinking about it now, I think it was such a serendipitous memory. Because Herma and Dean were most probably still in the celebrating kind of mood. And I guess that is so valid because when you have the chance to marry someone you are so sure about, you would be exploiting every moment of cheering about it!
While they were holding onto their champagne flutes, I made them walk all around. Herma and Dean were so easy to work with. With their vision in mind, I thought I was able to give justice to what they actually wanted. And I was more than happy that they felt like my photos gave more life and meaning to their engagement.
All throughout the photoshoot, I was thinking about how glad I was that I was able to document a lot of their intimate moments together. They would be whispering to each other, snickering, and laughing to themselves. It felt criminal to be intruding on such a private moment.
I couldn’t stop thinking about how rare it is to be able to meet someone and instantly make a connection that they are your person. But Herma and Dean, somehow, made something rare into something possible.
Honestly, it was such an honor to photograph Herma and Dean’s engagement, and soon, their actual wedding day. Fingers crossed, I hope everything goes well! And even with fingers uncrossed, I know that Herma and Dean will share a beautiful lifetime together.
