Sejal & Dushyaan’s Wedding Day | Focus Photography at Royal Ambassador Event Centre
Sejal and Dushyaan’s wedding was a three-day event, and it was a blast on all three days! On the first day, they did the Haldi and Mehndi. Then, on the next, they did the Sangeet. On the sixth of June, Sejal and Dushyaan finally came together in front of the entire family and friends and united as two halves of one. I have been a part of a few Indian weddings, and they have all been so extravagant, and Sejal and Dushyaan’s did not disappoint, not even by a half inch.
With Sejal and Dushyaan, they had a two-day pre-wedding event, followed by the actual wedding ceremony and reception on the sixth of June. But on all three days, I was having the time of my life. I would love to be invited to a Hindu wedding. For now, I will stick to being a wedding photographer, because that is as close as I can get to being a part of one.
Regardless, I loved every part of it. The three-day event, including the wedding, was full of both serene yet powerful and chaotic yet meaningful moments. On the first day, Sejal and Dushyaan did the Haldi and Mehndi. It was done at their house. As soon as I had arrived, their backyard was sheltered with a massive white tent, and yellow decorations added a splash of color to the place.
At the very center, there were two woven mats where Sejal and Dushyaan were going to be sitting while their loved ones and invited guests smudged turmeric paste on their bodies. So many of their family and friends came by, and I thought it was so beautiful how everybody wanted to honor and grace Sejal and Dushyaan’s traditions.
As a wedding photographer, aside from capturing the most emotional and vulnerable memories, I love to be present in the most overwhelming moments as well. Not because there is so much to see visually, but when you see it, there is this rush of memories that come flooding to mind. And I always thought that experiencing that is so humanistic, and so wonderful.
The haldi is done to the couple as a way to purify and bless them for their upcoming journey. Sejal and Dushyaan came prepared by wearing casual clothing. Everybody came around with such mischievous smiles, and they did not hold back on the turmeric paste. But Sejal and Dushyaan accepted every dollop with a big smile on their face. It was so infectious to be around a crowd that is always in such a cheerful mood.
I couldn’t possibly get rid of my smile that entire day!
Once everybody had their chance with the turmeric paste, Dushyaan came running to the side of the house to the garden hose. There was a wild commotion as his loved ones immediately ran towards him and stole the hose. I was quick to follow, and I got there just in time as they doused him from head to toe.
There were so many things happening at the same time, it was quite dizzying. But I was on such a rush that it made everything feel worth it.
As for Sejal, she was inside having her henna tattoos inked on both her hands and feet. And opposite to Dushyaan, she was calm, radiant, and possessed such an elegant beauty that invigorated more in pictures.
The next day, more of the same was done, but this time, they did the Sangeet. It was another pre-wedding ceremony, an entire day of dance and song to encourage the unity and bond between the two families. The venue was already dressed in festivities. The tables were decorated with grandiose garments, and the walls were covered in sheer green and orange shimmery drapes, which paired well with what Dushyaan had worn.
In between the tables, there was a massive open floor, waiting for people to dance on it. And there was so much food to enjoy and indulge in. Just remembering the platters and trays makes my stomach grumble. It smelled and looked that delicious!
Of course, the day began with dancing, and the night ended with dancing. I was physically tired from watching them. I could not believe the amount of stamina they had stored. But it was so amazing to see, and each picture I took was a masterpiece of its own.
I am sure that everybody is already familiar with the quote: A picture speaks a thousand words. Well, in Sejal and Dushyaan’s pictures, each and every photograph spoke billions. A single glance between Sejal and Dushyaan meant so much. And any touch shared between them could be interpreted in so many ways. Every single memory they shared with each other and with their loved ones could only be summarized with one word: Perfect.
