Martina & Tyler | Engagement Session at RC Waterharris
A little later after Tyler proposed to Martina, they started looking for photographers to document their engagement shoot. Time could only tell that our paths were destined to cross, because as soon as they contacted me, It was an immediate yes for me! Right before we discussed where to hold the shoot, Martina and Tyler briefed me on the aesthetics they were eyeing for their pictures.
Then, they told me what they were going to wear on the day itself. Martina and Tyler wanted something casual but still looked dressed up enough. Martina wanted to wear a sundress with blue floral designs, while Tyler went for a simple white polo shirt and washed out jeans.
The three of us met up at RC Waterharris. In their application form, Martina mentioned that Tyler proposed to her at a conservation park with beautiful scenery behind them. It only seemed fitting that they had their photoshoot outdoors as well. On the day of, the sun was out, the breeze felt cool, and the grass was looking greener on our side.
I was more than positive that everything would turn out for the better.
For some of the pictures, I wanted to be more intentional with how I framed them in each shot. I made sure that all the spaces they didn’t fill up were proportionate to each other. Then, I instructed them to do the kinds of poses that felt natural to them as a couple, so that nothing felt wonky or out of place. And they kept hitting every pose as needed, I was definitely feeling the momentum already.
Because I wanted the transition to seem more natural, I asked Martina and Tyler to walk towards me. I slowly led them to the grassy fields. And as they strolled, Martina glanced at Tyler a lot. Whenever she looked at him, my heart kept fluttering. The way she stared at him looked as though she was thinking, “How lucky am I to be his soon-to-be wife?” As soon as Tyler caught Martina staring at him, she would blush and they’d end up laughing together.
I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way but I was such a third wheel the entire time we were shooting. I mean, I knew I really was a third wheel but it seemed like my confidence as a photographer got lost in the moment.
Afterwards, as they moved around the field, I thought that the ground was too uneven. Maybe, it would’ve been good for Martina to have a short break walking in heels. So, I suggested that they take a seat for a while, act as though they were out on a picnic without the whole get-up. And right then and there, sparks kept shooting into the sky!
Martina and Tyler were so romantic and affectionate with each other that I enlisted them as my OTP for all time. The smiles. The eyes. The hand placement! Gosh, everything came so naturally to them. I didn’t have to guide them as much anymore, and my heart just swelled because I knew every picture was going to be a favorite of mine and theirs.
Honestly, I had my work cut out for me because they just kept on giving, and giving, and giving. And I was eating it up as a photographer!
I was so in love with their love. It was no question that I had to be the one to be their wedding photographer, because they were just so exciting and easy to work with. And their emotional bond did wonders! Whatever my camera got, it was an instant masterpiece.
